I can has a running coach?

My favorite instructor at my gym has (finally) adopted me! I look up to her and her husband in a lot of ways and I joked with Dave a few times that I would love to become their pet project and for them to invite me to dinner at their house. (is this the beginning of stalker behavior?) It's the equivalent of a man-crush I guess. Anyway, be careful what you wish for. Case in point: she's been pestering me about helping her to start a runners club but I had to be frank and tell her that 1) I'm not good at running and 2) actually, I hate running. She keeps bugging me about it, I keep hoping she'll forget about it because it terrifies me. She keeps saying things like "running is so good for your figure" and "the best way to lean your legs is by running" (damn! my achilles heel is my legs!!) So finally yesterday she corners me after class and says "Girl, I want to run. When can you do it?" We settled on 4 miles every Tuesday morning on the treadmills at the gym. These will be my teaching days. She's going to teach me the proper way to run: "you can't just run any old way." I am equal parts freaked out and excited. I've always wanted to be a 'runner' but I can't even get past the 2 mile mark. This is something that really bothers me because I know my endurance is high...I guess I just don't know how to run.
I've also secretly always wanted to run a 1/2 marathon....so maybe this is my start.

You can do it! Just put one foot in front of the other and keep on going. The biggest part of finishing a 1/2 marathon (or a full, which by the way, you'll want to do once you finish the half; it's a sickness I swear) comes from your brain. So 'wanting' it just as important as the physical. If I can do it, you can too. Good luck!!

Nicely done!

I just started running, too. I never understood why "runners" were so into running, but I've realized that the enlightenment comes not while running, but after running.

A great quote about writing, "writers love to have written." Same is true for me and running.

Also, thanks for opening the blog to the public.

I like to run but I couldn't do 4 miles! yikes! You'll do great though, you're a machine. I'm robo-cop, part human, part machine. I'll be there someday... someday.
